Hi, I’m shannon Steinert-anderson MS, LCPC
Many children, teens, and young adults have problems that affect how they feel, act, and learn. Therapy is a type of treatment for these problems.
In therapy, we will talk and learn how to work out problems. Going to therapy helps us cope better, communicate better, and do better. Some of the issues that people face today are depression, anxiety, self injurious behaviors, oppositional behaviors, PTSD and social phobias.
I have worked with all ages, in many paths of life. I began working with families with children birth to age 6 working on brain development, developmental milestones, sign language, and school readiness. I have worked with middle school and high school students as a School Counselor in a virtual setting along with residential and foster care students. I spent time working with families in the military as a Military Family Life Counselor and I have worked in the adult men’s correctional facilities as a Behavioral Health Professional. I have also spent time in the community and in the schools as a traveling therapist. I added Licensed Professional Counselor credentials in 2018 and began my private practice in 2022. Currently, I hold two license in the state of Kansas: Licensed Professional School Counselor and Licensed Professional Counselor.
My Approach
It all begins with the introduction and intake. As a team, we design goals and a treatment plan. I specialize in CBT and DBT therapies. CBT looks at the cognitive approach, which is our thinking. Basically, you will decide to make changes in the way you think. DBT deals with understanding feelings. DBT aims to understand the difficult and intense feelings so you are better able to manage them. These are not the only modalities to therapy that I offer. Many sessions will offer features of play therapy, mindfulness, acceptance and commitment, IFS informed, sensory therapy, aversion/behavior modification, and ART.
